A Study of Microbic Variation in a Yellow Pigment-producing Coccus.

چکیده
A consideration of present views relative to the nature of microbic variation shows several differences of opinion. This study was undertaken in order to obtain further evidence in regard to the nature of variation, which for the past decade has become of interest not only to students of medical bacteriology and public health, but also to workers in the fields of agricultural and industrial bacteriology. Microbic variation at the present time is a more or less universally accepted phenomenon. For an excellent and extensive review of the subject, including a complete survey of the earlier literature, the reader is referred to Hadley's work (1927). An extensive bibliography of the published works since Hadley's survey may be found in my original manuscript.2 This work was undertaken for the purpose of studying the cultural, morphological, biochemical, and to a limited degree, the immunological phases of variation in a recently isolated yellow pigment-producing coccus. The study includes a consideration of the growth cycle of this coccus which showed a motile phase. The work is limited to a discussion of the methods of obtaining the variants, the character of the changes observed, the possibility of filterable forms and a growth cycle showing changes in the morphology of the organism.

Phase Variation in Myxococcus xanthus Yields Cells Specialized for Iron Sequestration
Myxococcus xanthus undergoes phase variation during growth to produce predominantly two colony phenotypes. The majority are yellow colonies containing swarm-proficient cells and a minority are tan colonies containing swarm-deficient cells. Comparison of the transcriptomes of a yellow variant, a tan variant, and three tan mutants led to the identification of differentially-regulated genes that d...
متن کاملFabrication of a yellow ceramic nano pigment based on zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and iron oxide as dopant (Fe2O3)
In this study, yellow ceramic nano pigments based on ZrO2 (zirconium oxide) were synthesized by solid state method using different value of Fe2O3 as dopant. The pigments were dispersed in solvent by a planetary ball mill and then the inks were printed on the ceramic surface using screen printing method. The samples were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectr...

متن کاملOptimization of extraction yield of carthamine and safflower yellow pigments from safflower (Carthamus tinctorious L.) under different treatments and solvent systems
Background and objectives: Safflower (Carthamus tinctorious L.) florets contain valuable red and yellow pigments and are used in food, textile dying, and pharmaceutical industries. Red carthamine pigment is formed from a yellow precursor, precarthamine, through an oxidation reaction at the end of flowers' maturation stage. The present study was conducted to find out the most effective ...
